BPT Admission 2022

BPT admission process may vary from one college to another. In order to get into a government college or good private college, you must crack relevant merit based selection process.

What’s merit based selection process all about, some of you may ask. Under merit based admission process, seats are distributed among deserving candidates on the basis of their position/rank in a merit list.

How is this merit list formed, some of you may ask. Relevant entrance exams or selection tests are conducted to gauge or evaluate the applicants. Later, the merit list is formed on the basis of candidates’ performance in the selection test/entrance exam and/or board examination.

Seats are distributed among deserving and eligible candidates on the basis of their rank or position in the merit list. However, admission process may vary from one college to another. Other modes of admission include – direct admission and merit based admission process.

Under direct admission process, vacant seats are distributed among applicants on a first come, first served basis. Donation based admission process deals with management-quota seats.

Fees

Tuition fees varies from one college to another. It depends upon factors such as – type of the college (government or private), scholarship status of the applicant, rating of the college etc. Government nursing colleges provide subsidized education to its students. On the other hand, private nursing colleges are known to charge (relatively) higher tuition fees. On an average, private nursing colleges may charge anywhere between 6-100K INR per year

BPT Course Details

BPT stands for Bachelor of Physiotherapy. It is an undergraduate level course. Looking from course format’s point of view, it is a Bachelor’s Degree course.

BPT is a physiotherapy training course. To be precise, it is the most popular physiotherapy education program in India!

BPT course is four years long. Candidates who have passed 12th Science with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects (biology group) are eligible to pursue BPT course.

As the name suggests, this program deals with the field of physiotherapy. What is physiotherapy all about, some of you may ask. Come, let us find out more about this discipline –

Physiotherapy is also known as physical therapy. Physiotherapy forms an important part of the allied healthcare sector.

In simple terms, physiotherapy (or physical therapy) deals with the diseases, illnesses or conditions that limit a person’s ability to move freely and perform his/her daily activities. Physiotherapy uses kinesiology, physical exercise and movement, electrical and physical agents, mobilization & relevant equipment to treat these conditions/illnesses/diseases.

Human beings rely on movement to perform different tasks. Without being able to move around freely, we won’t be able to live a happy and fulfilling life! Trauma, certain diseases or injuries can leave us with physical and movement impairment. This is where physiotherapy comes handy! Physical therapy helps treat movement and physical impairment through relevant equipment, physical exercise, kinesiology, electrical and physical agents, mobilization etc.

Apart from movement and physical impairment, physiotherapy also helps with pain management. It has been proven effective in treating acute or chronic pain. It also helps with rehabilitation of a patient (recovering from injury/trauma/certain illnesses).

Let us consider an example – after meeting an accident, Mr Shyam fractures his leg. The fracture limits his ability to move around freely. In other words, he becomes movement-impaired. An orthopaedic surgeon deals with immediate medical care of Mr Shyam. After obtaining initial medical care, the surgeon recommends regular physiotherapy sessions for Mr Shyam.

Physiotherapy has been recommended for Mr Shyam’s rehabilitation. Through physical therapy, Mr Shyam’s movement-impairment will get sufficient attention. He will be able to overcome this condition after undergoing specific number of sessions!

The above example shows how physiotherapy is provided alongside other (orthopaedic) medical service. Similarly, physical therapy can also be provided as a primary care treatment of many conditions!

In simple terms, physiotherapy is used to improve a patient’s physical functions. To improve a patient’s physical functions, a physiotherapist relies on physical therapy!

BPT course trains students and turns them into skilled physiotherapists. After completing this course, a candidate will be able to perform the following tasks – physical examination, diagnosis, prognosis, patient education, physical intervention, rehabilitation, disease prevention and health promotion.

BPT course is 4 years long.
