What’s the meaning of B.Voc.?
B.Voc. stands for Bachelor of Vocation. It is an undergraduate level Bachelor’s Degree course. Technically speaking, it is a vocational training program.
Traditionally, vocational training programs have been offered in India in formats such as – certification programs, diploma programs, skill diploma programs, workshops, training sessions etc.
UGC decided to further develop vocational training scene in India. They decided to craft an advanced vocational training program. UGC decided to develop a vocational training program that’s on par with traditional Bachelor’s Degree courses. Thus came the arrival of B.Voc. course.
The main aim of B.Voc. course is to impart industry-specific skills in students. Basically, it is a skill development program. B.Voc. courses revolve around different trades and domains. The program is aimed at developing skills among students. These skills are industry-specific in nature. These skills can help graduates find employment in relevant domains/sectors/areas.
B.Voc.: An In-depth analysis
As I mentioned before, B.Voc. stands for Bachelor of Vocation. It is an undergraduate level Bachelor’s Degree course. Technically speaking, it is a vocational training program.
Duration
The course duration is three years. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. Each semester is six months long.
Eligibility Criteria
Since it is an undergraduate level course, students who have passed 12th class are eligible to pursue this course. Eligibility criteria may vary from one B.Voc. course to another.
Entry and Exit options
B.Voc. program offers multiple entry and exit options. There exists attractive entry options for Diploma holders, ITI holders and applicants with technical knowledge and work experience.
The program offers three notable exit options. Here they are –
- Diploma after completing one year
- Advanced Diploma after completing two years
- Bachelor’s Degree after completing three years
What after B.Voc?
After completing B.Voc., graduates have two options available in front of them – take up employment or go for higher studies. Talking about higher studies, B.Voc. graduates may pursue M.Voc. program. M.Voc. stands for Master of Vocation.
